Torah Thoughts
This week we read the second portion
in the Book of Exodus, the second of the five books of the Torah.
We read the Torah portion "Va-Eira" (Exodus
6:2-9:35).
It contains 121 verses and no commandments.
HAFTARA (Excerpt from the Prophets)
This week we read Ezekiel 28:25-29:21.
The prophet speaks of Egypt, whose doom our Torah
portion portends. Ezekiel refers to Egypt, the arrogant superpower. Israel
is castigated for putting its faith in false alliances with this political
powerhouse. The wheels of history turn and the mighty Egypt will be overturned. The
rising Babylonian power will vanquish Egypt.
Eventually, the world’s superpowers will be subjugated
and Israel
will emerge, mighty and dependant only on G-d.
Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Baruch Price
